I was sniffing traffic SanDisk flash drive and noticed (semi-obviously) that if the NAND chip doesn't respond to commands (eg: ID) that the drive is recognized as 64MB. For the sake of testing the controller why not put the controller on a known good PCB w/o the NAND chip to see if it's detected.

I didn't hear back fro you JB so continued the search for a donor. I got lucky this morning and got the exact one. Re-balled the chip and recovered the data.

I just checked and you are absolutely right. It must be my age, too much alcohol or just plain dumb :-)
