don't you just love the tech of today? Still, doesn't solve the pinout problem :(

Children's toys, you all disappoint me. If we're talking about "this" let's throw a 3D CT Scanner into the mix. It makes your X-Ray look like a toy car. Picture is of a SSD BGA with Bond Wires.. I'll take that any day over the spaghetti nightmare that you call an X-Ray.

HaQue,
It does solve pinout problem, and in many cases is only way.
Of course having xray shot is ~30% of job, another 30% is track map analysis, 30% is testing, 10% is luck.
It still isn't fast method neither ideal (nothing is ideal), but the more statistics you gather the easier and faster analysis is.

I hope everyone understand here we're not talking about purchasing xray machine (If you can afford it, better to buy a small hotel, it's better business)
Usually, you can find 1-3 places with good xray service in big city - in technoparks, factory.
Forget about dental xray, it has 10-100 times lower resolution and high noise level.

Do NAND IC's have standard contact points like TSOP48 NAND?
From a database of solved Controller IC's (assumes you know controller manufacturer/model)

There are about 8-10 (or more) types of different NAND pinouts, so it's kinda standard (Vcc/Vss almost always different).
When you found 2-3 signal tracks, you can assume it has known layout. As for controller ICs, yes they have same layouts and someitmes it's easier to analyze it from controller's side. But you must have really big statistics, we probably on the half way now. There basically two ways where to start analysis from - controller or NAND, but sometimes controller analysis is impossible due to high density of spaghetti as on your image and pic below (left contacts)
