Did you try to format your ipod? Maybe you have guarantee? In your case I think you have damaged flash controller.

I buy it from an individual...no guarantee. I thk it is one of those made by unknown chinese companies, but anyway to fix them up?

Drive proabably has HPA activated because the person used failing memory to sell you it much cheaper.
morale of the story. Buy the real thing, with the warranty. The flash based ipods should last you a very long time.
