we use the

Aoyue 2702A+ SMD/SMT Hot Air All in 1 Rework Station

they redesign the solder gun now so it works a lot better.

its good for smd work and it has Microprocessor Controlled ESD safe unit

watch out for the older version as they dont have the redesign solder gun

You can also use this with something called quickchip / chipquick which is absolutely amazing!

I use a similar pcb heater & 50-70degrees Celsius with a smd tool- 10 minutes hassle free transplant even large SMD's - easy peasy.

Oh and for soldering Iron buy a Weller Station with replaceable tips. You can get temp controlled or static tamp. They last for years - I still have my dads as backup 15+ years old! i have a new one with temp control for SMD resolder and special tips

For SMD I use Philips hot air and infrared for different packages like BGA/CSP.
For soldering, happy with ELV, GOOT, Weller and Philips. What matters is the availability of spares and tips.

90% is skill and the ability to use chemicals and tool, not the equipment itself.

Well, i dono much about brands really and tech. in this issue but i got mine, Chinese made, good one (at least solves my problems here) and when the time comes for high end i might spend few hundred $$ in a good one

its like buying a car, you don`t need to buy a Ferrari to Practice Driving, may drive KIA for example, and when you think you need something more Pro. for ur work, go for the high-end my friend.

I need hi end tools with spares even after years. Philips and weller are perfect under this aspect, a little less about price, but it's secondary : paid by themselves.
