Hey everyone. New here

I have a sony handycam that all of the sudden will not power on. I was able to remove the 1.8' Zif drive and hook it up to my PC using a USB enclosure. My only problem is my PC and Mac see the drive but i cannot see the info on it to copy it off..

My PC will show the drive in disk management and in device/printers but nowhere else. The Mac shows it in Disk utility but again nowere else and i cannot open it to view/edit the files..

Any suggestions? Thanks

You're not seeing the drive, just the enclosure

If the data is important, then inquire professionals about data recovery maybe? Need to get a solid diagnostic on the drive to determine what is wrong with it.

if its a zif drive caddy, the connectors are probably not pushed in correct or upside down. have a fiddle, you will get it eventually

does it spin up?

Belive it or not, i have Hooked up a working camera via the cradle and used testdisk on a formatted drive and recovered deleted videos (pawn Shop treasures) topic ... the drives are formatted Fat32 (confirmed on DC-SR80, DC-SR40, HDR-x200v) so look out for fat32 drive

duh, didn't notice post date

BTW, if you ever need to confirm the interface pinouts for the internal drives, the following site has a large repository of free service manuals, including circuit diagrams.
