I have a client that brought me a 8gb PNY mini attache flash drive that had the usb connector snapped off. The tinning spots where the connector soldered onto the board were pulled off and I made several failed attempts of replacing the usb connector and resoldering it onto the board. It looks ugly now, but my previous attempts were cleaner. The drive still does not recognize. My question would be if I wanted to remove the NAND chip on this board, would I need to find the exact same board and swap NAND chips? Where would I go to find this exact board? The flash drive was purchased 3 years ago at BJ's wholesale club.

Thanks

if u were lucky it is controller issue and finding new one n moving ur chip to it should solve ur problem
if not

u will need Pro. tools to get the data from it

good luck

Due to exactly that challenge of finding an identical board (or identical controller anway), and assuming that the problem is indeed a physical one related to the visible damage, IMHO your better options are:

a) Deeper investigation of USB connector area on PCB (e.g. looking for hidden PCB cracks wit microscope, tracing continuity of tracks back to controller etc.), perhaps needing to remove that connector again; or

b) Removing flash and using suitable reader, as you already discussed on this forum before; or

c) Outsourcing point (b) to someone who already has a suitable reader.

Hi, Good photos. Thanks!

Trace the tracks from pins 16 & 17 on the controller chip back to the usb connecter. If you find a break in continuity you could hotwire the connections with suitable materials.
Also check your work carefully as I can see one or two solder balls which should really be removed.
If you havn't already, then check the fuse and also check for +5v
