Post subject: 3M MPRO150 Handheld Projector Backing up NAND as a diy ?
PostPosted: January 5th, 2012, 3:05
Hi Guys,

I had the following situation I was looking into some advice & guidance about if it is possible to backup the "nand / operating system of the following. I currently have been given (2)
3M Mpro 150 projectors to use in the haunted house I work in during October,

I was wondering if the following would be possible with a few of the limitations I have with the device.

1st concern) I can currently access the firmware image which is accessible as a ".img" file, that when I mount the file as a ext3 loopback device in Linux, I can see (6) six slides that form a animation such as a youtube loading image like this. Image.

My plan with the (6) six slides is to change them all to a solid black to eliminate this animation during video repeats which looks bad for effects with the animations currently.

2nd concern) Since I'd not be there every night to make sure they know how to turn it on, I'd like to see about setting a bash script up in the firmware to automatically execute a preset video file when the unit is powered on. I might throw it in, /etc/rc.d folder area, etc.

Also btw. "sw1" push switch on the board, actually starts a serial connection which when i connect to it via terminal appears to have some type of factory backend programming menu, I don't have direct access to at the moment, since the serial cable is in my other car to post pics of the menu, but i can tell you it is not user friendly.

My main goal is that I'd love to be able to make a safe backup of the OS / NAND area before hand, since a more curious side of me wants to dissect this projector and have some fun with it. :-)

I'd appreciate any feedback / advice on this subject via PM's from whoever would like to comment or they can post publicly, again I do apologize if i rambled a bit too much,

Thank You & look foward to any advice or help on the matter,

:-)
