| Post subject: | The flash card has died of wrong connection |
Greetings to all. At me such problem: the flash card has been connected incorrectly. Instead of vcc-> data--> data +-> gnd was so: gnd-> data +-> data--> vcc. After that the flash card is not defined correctly OS: Code: oleg@subb:~$ dmesg [99688.668097] usb 1-1.4: new high-speed USB device number 12 using ehci_hcd [99688.752092] usb 1-1.4: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [99688.940098] usb 1-1.4: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [99689.116101] usb 1-1.4: new high-speed USB device number 13 using ehci_hcd [99689.200086] usb 1-1.4: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [99689.388104] usb 1-1.4: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [99689.564098] usb 1-1.4: new high-speed USB device number 14 using ehci_hcd [99689.976016] usb 1-1.4: device not accepting address 14, error -71 [99690.048100] usb 1-1.4: new high-speed USB device number 15 using ehci_hcd [99690.460011] usb 1-1.4: device not accepting address 15, error -71 [99690.460112] hub 1-1:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 4 Here photos: ![]() http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/t9118359605/view/452429/ ![]() http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/t9118359605/view/452432/ ![]() http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/t9118359605/view/452450/ To restore the data it is not required, it would be desirable to repair a flash card independently. There are pieces of good advice? |

Is this summary correct? - You reversed USB Vcc and Gnd to the drive. - You do not need the existing data. - You would like to repair the drive to be able to use it again. - It is a 2GB drive. |

Thanks for confirming that summary. I did not see a reverse-polarity protection diode on the PCB in the photo (although it was not detailed enough for me to be sure). Based on the reported symptom, you are likely to have damaged the flash controller (and perhaps also the NAND flash itself), by reversing the polarity of the power supply. IMHO the cost (in time and money) of trying to find suitable replacement parts, and perform the repair, is more than the cost of buying a new 2GB+ USB memory device, so I believe that repair is not worthwhile. |

Thanks for the detailed answer. I guessed that repair is inexpedient. But I would like it to make, as this flash card - a gift very valuable to me. Besides, I have started to be engaged recently in restoration of the data (circumstances so have developed), and it is an excellent way for training. Therefore I am again ready to listen to pieces of good advice. It is already clear that it is necessary to replace the flash controller. P.S. I am sorry for my English. Probably, to you it is clear that I do not know your language. However, you well understand me |

I found a supplier in China, which has NetaŃ NT2039. But the seller does not mention price, demands it from me. Question to the pros: what is the real cost of this controller? Thank you. |

Well, it's a great idea - to purchase the same USB flash drive, change the casing and the end of this issue. Only what's will be training? In addition, it is an old flash drive, now this is not found. I am new to this forum, and unfortunately, I do not know who this Eric. P.S. Since the supplier has agreed to $6. I hope it's not very expensive. |
