HDD GURU FORUMS

I have this SanDisk 8GB USB flash drive. It shows up in the system as SanDiskFirebird device with 64MB capacity.
Seems like a common problem as per Sandisk support forum.
Does anyone know how to deal with it?

What controller do it have?

almost 100% sure it is encrypted. So only a couple options. Try and fix the circuit if there is anything to fix on it. or buy and IDENTICAL one ( which is difficult since you cannot see the circuit board from the outside of the packaging) and swap the controller and data chip(s) to the other board. Not saying it would work, but with it being encrypted there are not a lot of options.

I'm pretty sure it's some firmware problem since it shows up as mass storage device in some techno mode.

Not come across that particular chip, but 20-82-00253-2 isn't encrypted (well, apart from XOR)

AceLabs PC3000 Flash SSD wont help on Sandisk you need SoftCentre's kit.

Also AFAIK pc3k doesn't lend itself to monolith recovery either.

We are making some good progress with certain monoliths and micro SD cards using custom made adapters and hand wiring to the devices. Great fun!!

Now a Days softcenter Is THeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Tollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll .I Regret Buying ACELAB As The Development is just focussed on SSD Other controllers but not monolith thats so damn common here

I saw a post relating to SanDisk numbering and I am sure the poster had said that if a certain number block was a certain value, you could tell if it was encrypted. I cannot remember where I saw it, or much more about it, but Id like to track it down. Does anyone have an idea of the post I am referrring to?

For your problem, send it to a DR lab that deals with flash. or I have heard of a case where they transplanted just the NAND onto an exact same donor board and recovered data.

i only use flash drives to install windows and dont have this issue with my other sony 4gb only with my scandisk 8gb windows sees it as 64mb if you boot linux live or gparted live and it should see it correctly and be able to formatt if this happens you wont be able to get data from it ive also had the same problem when my dad used it for music in his cd player that could play mp3, wma, ... and synced music to it inside wmp
