Hi,

Desperately need some help. I am trying to get back a very old (3 yrs old maybe) video file from my camera's SD card. I ran a data restore using software I downloaded and was able to get back some random videos and the actual file I was looking for. The only issue is that the file will only play sound and there is no visual (mpeg file).

I then ran another software for data restore called DiskDigger. This found about 3000 mpeg files (a lot more than the other software) on my camera. Most of these files were duplicates of each other with different file names and only played sound. There was no video.

Why is only sound playing? How can I get the file to show video?

I'm quite clueless so any input at all would be appreciated.

thank you :)

This very old file, is it a file that was deleted circa three years ago? Has any new data been saved to the SD Card in these 3 years?

Hi,

Yeah, it's really old. There has been some new stuff saved on it but I was able to find the file(s). The issue is the file is only playing audio and no video. Is this because the video part was deleted or something?

Typically, such corruption in situations like yours is attributed to missing data content from overwritten parts of the file. But since your answer lacks certainty, then it can be considered just an assumption. More in depth analysis would be necessary to confirm.

Eek. So this means there's a chance of never getting the video? Also, what do you suggest I do next?

okay so I just tried another software called Recuva

It restored the video again but only audio plays. I took a screenshot and attached it to this. It's the file called [000006]

Apart from damaged file, this type of behaviour could also be caused by a missing codec on your machine. Try to play the file with some play-it-all video player like VLC.

Agree, download vlc latest version.

If that don't play it then nothing will!
