OK, I was pointed to this program to do edits to a SMI controller Chip in a USB Thumbstick.
ANd I just wanted any info on just how it works before I go and do anything. I need to make one single change to this stick, but I am not sure how this program writes to the controller.
Just thought I would ask here as theres a lot of knowledge here.
thanks
D.A.

Hi,
a little more info pls? What changes do you want to make.. what is your drive? advice would be to buy another the same as a tester if it is cheap enough.

What you can do is make sure you have all data off it firstly.
put in the drive, start the software and click "scan usb" and write down everything you see. nothing is written at this point. make sure you also look at the setting button, as this has more details. the password is usually "320" or you can find it as a hard coded string with a hex editor.
after you click "start" then the settings you chose will be written. you will probably need the firmware files that are listed in the settings tab...

I have not really used the software, but looking at it, I am fairly confident of what Ive said, others may chime in and correct me, but I don't expect you to get much help really.. maybe Im becoming jaded at the DR "scene" ;-)

good luck, and I would love to hear your results.

cheers

Hello and thank you for your reply. I have a few old SMI controller USB keys that I want to do some minor edits to, like change the name of them to one of my own ect, change the serial Numbers to something I want. Nothing to extreme. but I was pointed to this software and really I find no "good" how to's with it. I have read the manual a few times, and I grasp most of it. but it says nothing about when things actually write to the stick. I was messing about last night and I think I killed one of them, No biggie, but I did make a save file before I did anything. I just cant "reload" it. So before I mess any others up I wanted to just ask the pro's.
