Is it possible? Yes, I have seen it done with one type of CF card a long time ago, using a special manufacturer utility.

If you really wanted to ask: Can you do it, without special knowledge specific to that CF card? No.

There might be alternative approaches to whatever problem you are trying to solve, by changing the CF card's reported s/n. Let's guess - is this regarding some kind of software protection scheme? ;)

I agree with your suspicions Vulcan.

If this is the case, then whatever, just don't say so here.

advice, before you go playing with the card, take an image of it, and verify your image is good.

might help to know which CF Card, and what the controller chip is. For example chips like SM series have tools for writing the firmware, including serial number, Phison have tools such as MPtool and UPtool that does the same thing.

These tools are notoriously tricky to use due to poor translations, poor/no documentation etc. I guess because you are not meant to have them unless you are a device manufacturer..

practice on other cards first, and be VERY sure about what you are doing if this is indeed a protection. Might be easier to RE the software.. It usually is.

Hello,

i´ve got a similar problem like the OP, i would like to ask if there is a tool/software availible for editing the data on a Phison PS3006-T Controller.
I have bought plenty of 8GB CF Cards from China that have a very strage Product ID and Serial Number and i would like to change that.
I did search a lot on the web, but i couldn´t find anything matching this specific controller.
Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Best Regards,
Dave
