In most laptops there is a key with which it prompts you to temporarily select boot device (ie. you don't have to enter BIOS).
You sure yours doesn't have one? It is usually one of ESC, F10, F12

jerovsek: well found dude. Bookmarked. #LinuxFanBoi here

Had similar probllems with a customers new laptop tho "brand new" so no data loss issues.
Stuck in boot up mode.

Advised customer to RTB which was ok as she got it from John Lewis (reputable UK retailer with *Excellent* customer care) rather than risk me trying to get it started and voiding any warranty.

One call to on her behalf to explain tech to JL Cust support, job was done.
Happy customer.

@jerovsek - Thanks from me too. :) I have always disabled any "fast boot" mode on my laptops over the years, because the pre-boot time was too short to allow me to press a key to go into BIOS setup or choose a different boot device - so I've never noticed the side-effect described in the article that (at least on some laptops like the Samsung) this mode prevents changing the boot device too!

@pclab - Thanks for your earlier reply. Hopefully the info in that blog linked by jerovsek will allow you to change the BIOS boot device, if you want to boot from Linux to see if the SSD is readable, while you are waiting for your adapter. :)

@northwind - Thanks for explaining the part which I didn't understand earlier. :) That's another beer I owe you ...
