Not sure if this is the right place to post this but it only just came to mind.

A few months back my S4 forced me to make a stupid update to the newer version.

After a few days I realized my pictures where missing and only the inbuilt pictures where being displayed. I took out the MSD and plugged it to my PC, it didn't read it, not even in disk manager. I put it back into the phone and the phone does not read it either. I also tried with USB but nada.

Is there anyway to recover almost 10GB of pictures I've taken over the last year or so? I have many pictures of a relative who recently passed away and it would be a shame if they are lost forever.

Thanks!

Hi,
The first important step to getting your data back would be to create a complete by sector image of the sd card. So you need to be able to access it from a pc or a laptop and run an imager to create the image file. Then you could mount the created image using recovery software and scan for any available data, photos etc.

To create the image file I tend to use Dmde as you can then mount the image in the same software to see if files are available though you could use the Hdd Raw Copy tool available on this site. Both are free.

If neither tool can even see the sd card then recovery would be all but impossible for a home user.

Good luck!

Otherwise, send it to pcimage(forum user) and he can recover for you. I don't know how close he is to you , but in UK at least.

Just to update,

I tried detecting it with DMDE but that was a dead end.

It seems to be toast.

Someone should really get on the case of Samsung for this cock up, I googled this and I don't seem to be alone.

Don't be so quick to blame them, MicroSD manufacturers are also a suspect..
