SSD OCZ suddenly death after electrical shut down

my OCZ vector 256 GB death, seem like some component has been fault after electrical shut down, can somebody help me to identified what component has been fault...

This should be recoverable using standard flash memory recovery methods.
It will need to go to a specialised DR company that does flash (SSD) though, not a DIY.
It might have a slight chance of being fixed on the electronics side, but unlikely

Your photos are too dark to make out some of the components. Do you have access to a CCD scanner, and, if so, could you scan your PCB at 1200dpi?

Otherwise, could you measure the resistance of the diode D1 near the SATA power connector?

If D1 is OK, could you then measure the voltages at coils L2, L3, and L4?

Also measure the voltages at U19.

If these are OK, then we could try to get some terminal output from what appear to be the RS232 Tx/Rx/Gnd pins. You will need a USB-TTL serial adapter for this.

Could you supply clearer shots of the areas of the PCB in the attachments? What are the markings on U17 and U19? Are there any markings around the serial Tx/Rx pins?

You haven't given me all the measurements I asked for, bit it would appear that at least one voltage is missing. BTW, when you measure a voltage, use SATA power ground as your 0V reference. Also, be very careful not to slip with your probes, as serious damage will result.

As for the chips, U19 is a 2.5V regulator while U17 consists of 3 switchmode power supplies. The fact that there is no voltage at L2 may be because that particular supply is not enabled, in which case we would need to examine U16 (near D1). I suspect it might be a power controller/monitor. There is also a zero-ohm resistor at R64 (below U16).

U16 is an SDRAM, so it looks like all the power control happens within U17.

i remove the diode then i got volatage in L2, L3 and L4
V L2 = 3.3V
L3 = 1.65 V
L4 = 1.09V
U19 = 5,3 V ( center leg)

after this SSD crush my office friend has bring to some one who repair handphone with no result, when i return i checked it by myself ( after crush i have 3 days city visiting ), this day i found that some caps in SATA connector has been removed. it this caps important? and can i directly connect them without caps?

I don't understand why you removed D1. If it measured 0.6 on the diode range in one direction and open circuit in the other, then it would have been OK.

The middle pin of U19 is the +5V supply voltage. The outside pins should be 0V and +2.5V.

If you are referring to the capacitors at C2/C3/C4/C5, then they should be present. Are you saying that "some one who repair handphone" removed these capacitors?

I think we need see better photos.

when D1 not removed i got no volatge in L2, L3 and L4 also in U19... but when i removed i got voltage...

U19 is good other leg show voltage 2,5V..

yes..that guy removed this caps

Replace the caps and hopefully everything will be OK. In fact you should be able to just bridge them with wire links or solder blobs, provided that there are equivalent caps on your motherboard's SATA port or in your external enclosure, or wherever you intend to use the SSD.

I still don't understand your D1 measurement, but your power supplies now seem to be OK. A shorted TVS diode should have shut down your computer's power supply, but you didn't mention anything of that kind, so I confess I'm puzzled. Just to be certain, are we to understand that your measurement of 0.695 was on the diode range rather than a resistance range?

i,m back, i bridge 4 caps SATA with wire then no result too, i watch carefully all component then i found c130 removed too :shock: ( i compare my pic with your pic http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/sto ... C_8989.jpg)

i think diode seem to be ok but i don't why it not has power in SSD, i measure with multi meter and i got value 0.695 then i reserve proble it has no value...

I'm sorry, I can't help you. ISTM that your SSD may have reverted to its original problem, before the work was done on it. I would use a serial TTL adapter to obtain information from the drive's terminal port. That will at least tell us whether the flash controller is alive.

As for C130, it appears to be the output capacitor for the unpopulated switchmode supply consisting of U20 and L5. I doubt that it has any affect on the circuit.
