Flash drive: Verbatim
Memory Mark: F0T64GL64M4 81343D10099
ID: 45de9493
Memory identified as SDZNQFAMA_008G

Page size 32 Sectors (17664 Bytes)
Block size: 256 Pages
8-bit bus

I have pasted a text form of the data at Block-1 page-0

I have tried both automatic, and some manual combinations (Interleave eliminatations) to recover data but in vain. I searched the Knowledge database but in vain. Obviously there is no XOR.

Has anyone come across this type of Flash ?

What flash recovery tools do you have available?

There's quite a few DM8261 cases on Soft Center forum, all unsolved :-(

Deemed "unrecoverable" by the developer.

I think you will find it Does have XOR, but probably only in DATA Areas.

I suspect bad Columns are also making this tricky for you.

Curious if your NAND chip has the Pin1 dot in the correct place, or down where pin 24 is?

HaQue,

Neither the data area nor the service is XORed; I have seen legible text in both. The ones you saw above are in the data area, check the offset.

rehaandrew,

Can you please guide me ?

I see only XORed cases with this controller so far. And if i good remember this controller XOR also data and SA + strange bad columns. Quite hard case to crack, but I working on it.

If using NAND Reader, this chip requires power on additional pins. common problems when this "power mod" is not used (when using NAND Reader) is many bit errors, lots of empty areas of the dump and useless dumps. I have no idea how PC3K handles this need for power.

If you don't remove the bad columns, then data will be shifted and you wont be able to remove mix. look at VNR explanation of bad columns.

do you have a working device"? a 77 pattern and LBA pattern may be helpful.

I have read most of the documentation that came with PC3000 but have not seen any thibg about Bad Columns.

PC3000 shows the contents of a dump in a 16-byte wide span in Service Information mode, this makes it difficult to identify the Bad Columns visually. Is it possible to extend the visual span to a page ? This would have made the Bad Columns visually identifiable.

Sorry I don't know about how PC3K removes bad columns. In Flash Extractor, The NAND reader software reads a bad bytes file and the step "remove bad bytes" is added. In VNR you can either manually remove them, and/or read a .bcf file from the chip and apply it. I would think PC3K would have to support these triple address chips somehow, but I don't use it.

But your chip isn't a WL, so ignore the bad columns comment, sorry I should have checked that first!

The power modification is not related to Bad Columns.

very strange if your device isn't using XOR scrambler.

But there is no XOR. I dont think so this error can be removed without technical help. Matiw is worried about the data recover.

possibly block 0 has just flash drive firmware stuff and the rest is different.
if you search for the following, do you find it? and if so can you post a sector or partial from each page that it is contained in?

Not really a good idea to just try interleaves and combinations unless you know what parameters are or know a few likely similar cases. You can spend a lot of time doing this and result is frustrating!

sample searches:

search for HEX: 000055aa (looking for MBR)

looking for FAT, search for HEX bytes: f8ffff
search for text: FAT

Search for a section of the FAT32 table, search for HEX : 010300000203000003030000

if you fid the fat table you can use this to see what type of mix you got.

If you cant find any of it, then you probably have XOR.

If you want to upload dumps to me I will look for you and maybe can show you whats going on.

BTW, I have had a week from hell, and almost didn't make it to double figures for hours of sleep. if anyone sees anything in my posts wrong, I am only too happy to have it corrected!! :)

one of the DM8261's I have, the XOR doesn't start until 0x2400 bytes.. 1 page

Hi HaQue, I could not find any of those strings in the dump. It looks like that it is XORed.

I am giving sometime to this NAND, in between other tasks. I shall try all I can, if I fail, I will take your kind offer and upload the dumb. Thanks a lot.

By the way, PC3000 has an option that seems to have something to do with Bad Columns, if I am not wrong. It is named: Deleting Addings for TLC (WL Chips).
