Post subject:  Resume a raw copy?

Hi guys,

I've been wrestling with a problem for days, maybe someone here can help me.

I have a laptop with a failed battery that was shut off unexpectedly. Because of this the SSD won't boot. It's a weird 6 pin asus thing, so i can't plug it into an external bay/

So i created a winxp live cd, i can boot, but when i acces specific files on the SSD, winxp freezes and the ssd disappears. When i try to use HDD Raw Copy to create a raw image for data retrieval, it aborts at 17%.
Message: Operation terminated at offset 21,856,452,608 LBA 42,688,384
Source was unplugged, aborting.
Before i see this i get several read errors,

Is there a way to "resume" the copy from the next sector? Since it's an SSD and the data can be scrambled anywhere on the disk i think i need a raw dump that is as complete as can be for data carving.

You need to use the linux program, ddrescue.

+1 to using ddrescue. Here's a tutorial about how to use it: https://www.data-medics.com/forum/viewt ... f=21&t=133

Ok thanks guys, i'll try it out. I was pretty impressed with HDD raw copy so far, it was able to retrieve 10% from the photo's allready in good shape. But, DDrescue it is then :)
