This was deleted shortly before the voice recorder failed. There is an 'erase' button which is quite prominent and it will format the device if depressed.

ISTM that if it were a problem, then the designer would have taken it into account.

Erasing

1 Select the file you want to erase.
2 While the recorder is during stop mode, press the ERASE button.

• File number and [NO] will flash on the display.

3 Press the 0 button to select [yES].

4 Press the `OK button.

• Erasing begins and [ERASE] flashes on the display.

Erasing all files:

1 While the recorder is during stop mode, press the ERASE button.

2 Press the ERASE button again.

• [ALL] and [NO] will flash on the display.

3 Press the 0 button to select [yES].

4 Press the `OK button.

• Erasing begins and [ERASE] flashes on the display.

• If an action is not selected within 8 seconds, the recorder will return to stop mode.

• It may take over 10 seconds to complete processing. Never remove batteries during this time because data may be corrupted. In addition, carefully check the remaining battery level in order to ensure that the battery will not run out while processing.

ISTM that formatting would require similar confirmations and wilful selections by the user.

AISI, it would cost 15 UKP to test the suspect daughterboard in a working voice recorder. If it works, then the pinout could be determined by first measuring the Vcc and Ground pins in the donor, and then experimenting with the donor's daughterboard via a breadboard. It might be worth adding the external pullup/damping resistors stipulated in the datasheet.

To anyone who has worked on an Olympus voice recorder. Did you ever find a way to convert/play the files extracted from the VR?

I have extracted files from a VN-7200 and can see they are compressed/encoded. I have tried FFmpeg but it does not recognize the original file to convert. Anyone had any luck?

I can send anyone a sample file by PM if you need.

I have just been informed by Olympus that the codec used for the VR is CELP.
