Normally sizes double in memory.. ( 64GB, 128GB, 256GB ... ) I am guessing the "lost" 56GB is for the Bad Blocks allocation

it is going to suck recovering from these larger devices.

great things come in small packages.. such as the C.H.I.P http://nextthing.co/ that looks cool (shame I missed the kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1598272670/chip-the-worlds-first-9-computer/

and

how about these then.. http://www.pcauthority.com.au/UpgradeAustralia/News/398122,intel-promises-10tb-ssds-within-two-years.aspx

but the NAND promises seem to be a see_in_market = promise(rand("hope") * rand("pray") ); type of function

Yes :) What I found funny is Sandisk was talking about its 2nd generation 3D NAND with 48 layers they are supposedly going to have out 2016... I haven't seen 1st gen yet. I think some Samsung EVOs had 3D, but who knows when the lowly consumer is going to see this stuff everywhere in place of trusty TSOP48's

Since this topic has turned into the selection of industry announces, here's the one from Dell, who plans to go to $1.66 per GB using Samsung 3D NAND:
