SSD SUPER TALENT FTM28GX25H hangs SATA, recovery procedure?

August 6th, 2015, 6:51

Hi,

I have a defective SUPER TALENT FTM28GX25H SSD here, 128GB, build 2009.

It belongs to my wife, she didn't backup :-((( and some bussiness documents have to be restored.
Of course now this is my part ...

If connected to a SATA port, the PC hangs in BIOS with HD-LED permanent ON.
No other SATA drives are found.
This lets me hope only the SATA interface is dead and the memory is still intact.

On the board I found the serial RS232 interface and a 20 pin header which is surely is a JTAG.
Is there a procedure how these interfaces can be used to restore data?
I thought of buying an identical drive and transfering the flash content.

I realize these are standard questions, but I searched the forum and googled but had no keyword hits.

Thanks for reading,
Joerg

1. you cannot transplant the flash. Will not work.
2. I think these are relabelled Barefoot drives and I think I can recover data, if you wanted to send to AU. It isn't a DIY, I need to desolder all NANDs, read them all, then discover/reverse the wear levelling and performance algorithms, and re-assemble data to an image.
3. There may be a dr centre closer to you that knows barefoot fixes, you would want to make sure they are competent in flash first though.

I think if you short rom_sel, you can use external firmware to boot and do something, but I haven't played with it. You can connect to the serial via putty and see boot messages that may give an indication whats going on.

but if important, especially wife! don't do anything that can ruin recovery chances, better seek professional help if you can.
Good luck!

BTW, nice site, I own 2 MicroVAX 3400, and a Tandy TRS80 Model 2000 :)
