Problem accessing think pad USB 3.0 secure External HDD

September 24th, 2015, 19:23

]Hi Guys,

I have a thinkpad USB 3.0 Secure hard drive(1TB),and has been having issues accessing it.I seriously need help.

The last time (1 week ago)I used the hard drive successfully following the appropriate steps. I plugged it 2 days ago to my computer to use it, now the LED instead of displaying a solid and stable red which indicates that the drive is ready to accept passwords,is now blinking continuous red non-stop.The blinking never stops as long as the drive is connected to the computer.

I will really appreciate assistance from anyone who knows what that continuous non-stop LED blinking is indicating,as I have important documents on it.

Thanks as I look forward to your kind assistance.

Hans

First thing I would do is fetch the hard drive out and test it, for example with HDDSCAN

Whatever you do, don't alter anything on the drive whatsoever (I.e. Try and format it)

Hi pcimage,

Thanks for your prompt response.

Since the HDD is encrypted, I was wondering that even if I open it, its not going to be any use to me.

I also assume that lenovo had documentations that explains all the LED indicators on this drive, but,I never seems to find any documents that explains this continual flashing red light(LED).

The drive is designed with a multi colored LED indicator. So,I think this flashing is pointing to something operational than a hardware failure. I have been thinking, did my kids tried to access it and activated other functions?did they enter a wrong password several times?

you don't get it, what "pcimage" is trying to do, is to eliminate hard drive problem, or maybe it is the HDD, so.... for example if the problem is indeed with HDD, and you gonna fix it somehow or clone it to another HDD, even its encrypted, when you put the clone drive to the enclosure everything will be fine

don't think too much, check it out

Exactly! One step at a time, in a process of elimination! :-)
