Easy to upgrade to larger capacity. More value for the customer

This is nothing special, it's a MicroSD to USB adapter.. Usually they're in a small monolithic package with a jig in the back to keep the MicroSD card in place..
The first picture is where the MicroSD Card (missing?) goes, the second picture is the MicroSD -> USB Controller..
I've seen cases where the MicroSD card comes loose, just put it in a normal reader and you have all the data.

It is, just put a larger capacity MicroSD card in, it's "future proof"

It's what I thought initially, I have seen similar things before with a micro SD wedged in there, but there appears to be no MSD in there and there doesn't appear to be sufficient room in the cavity in the nasty plastic shell where this thing was.
We are already trying to contact the client to see if he's already taken it apart and he's got the MSD.
thx for the input

That's what i meant with my post. That uSD contacts block looks really standard.

Here is a complete device. Note this one is broken. It doesn't work! So it is always possible the customer opened it then threw away the bits of 'plastic'. Hope he still has the micro SD card as it might still work.

a lot of commercial devices are actually eeproms or serial chips with a tiny amount of memory, stuff written and device made to look like a 1GB or something. some will even "write" actually not writing, but somehow emulating a normal stick. I have a collection of devices like it. very similar in all cases: a few test pads, but not enough for nand, usually a small amount of traces on pcb, a COB controller and purpose is catalogue or advertising or business card

it is a customers drive

HaQue's retirement plan is to create the largest known collection of flash drives in the world expecting their value to increase like Nike shoes.
I'd love to have access to that library, especially for monolithic donors.
