Hi,

I have this Kingston pen drive here, that is protected with password, that encrypts the contents of the pen.
Client by accident clicked on the format button and set a new password and now needs to get the files that were there.
Anyone had any experience with this ones and know if the encryption is done at chip level?

Thanks

Depends..
IIRC Kingston had two methods..

#1:
On older drives w/ a phison controller an app mounts a hidden unencrypted partition stored in the NAND chip (no encryption done).

#2:
On newer drives the app mounts an AES encrypted image file on the visible drive (encryption done by software).

The latter would be more difficult to recover.

This one is quite recent, so I guess it's case #2.
Thanks
