http://improvephotography.com/676/9-things-photographers-need-to-know-about-memory-cards/ if this info is correct... Quote: Memory Card Tip #8: If you are unsuccessful at recovering images on a corrupted Lexar memory card, you can actually send the card to Lexar at NO COST and they will have a technician perform professional data recovery on the card, put the images on a DVD, and mail you a new card and the images. ?? |

I'm not so sure about that. I just did a Lexar CF card recovery this fall where Lexar told the client that they would honour the warranty if we have to disassemble the device to recover the data, but they did not offer to do the recovery in-house or to cover the costs of my services. It was a very tough case where we were only able to do a RAW recovery because one of the 8 dumps had over 2GB of read errors. We tried everything we could to get a better read result, but nothing. |

English is not my native language, but maybe they mean they only cover shipping cost? Otherwise they would have said: Quote: you can actually send the card to Lexar and they will have a technician perform professional data recovery on the card, put the images on a DVD, and mail you a new card and the images at NO COST.

The fact that he ends that tip with the question: Quote: Does anyone knowledge about this? Makes me assume he's probably misunderstanding something he himself read and has no firsthand knowledge of. |

Quote: To: lexarausupport@micron.com From: Franc Zabkar Dear Sir/Madam, The following web site suggests that Lexar offers a free professional data recovery service on a corrupted Lexar memory card: http://improvephotography.com/676/9-thi ... ory-cards/ "Memory Card Tip #8: If you are unsuccessful at recovering images on a corrupted Lexar memory card, you can actually send the card to Lexar at NO COST and they will have a technician perform professional data recovery on the card, put the images on a DVD, and mail you a new card and the images." Can you explain what this involves and the terms and conditions for this service? Best regards, Franc Zabkar Quote: From: Lexarausupport <Lexarausupport at micron dot com>
To: Franc Zabkar Hi Franc, This service applies to anyone who owns a Lexar Professional ranged card. If the Professional card fails and you need to get the photos off it, your local office (In Australia that is us in North Sydney) can send the card for you to the US and have the team there work on it. While results are not guaranteed, it gives you another option besides the Image Rescue software to try to get your photos out. A service like this can be quite costly locally. The team in the US usually spends at least 8 weeks with the card then couriers a replacement card and if they are successful, a dvd(s) of the results to you. |

Thanks Franc, nice work. I would assume(hope) they are doing chip off as well and are doing anything a regular flash DR Guy is doing. 8 weeks is quite a long time IMHO, surely this isn't because of backlog from around the world. I don't know how many people would even know this, and bearing in mind it is professional series only, it would be less. maybe most don't take as long and they are giving themselves a good buffer. I commend them for offering the service. |
