CompactFlash, SD, MMC, USB flash storage. Anything that does not have moving parts inside.

Title says all. I know there's a way to fix the drive so it won't show up as such (and thus be usable again), but I was wondering if data from it can still be salvaged using ordinary tools.

post a pic of the pcb, both sides. Ordinary tools? no. what do you mean by "borked-up"?

Borked-up as in it is detected as a "USBest USB2Flash" device instead of the usual flash drive.
