Recovering from a borked-up flash drive? (USBest USB2Flash)

Title says all. I know there's a way to fix the drive so it won't show up as such (and thus be usable again), but I was wondering if data from it can still be salvaged using ordinary tools.

Borked-up as in it is detected as a "USBest USB2Flash" device instead of the usual flash drive.

controller firmware, controller, device electronics , faulty nand etc.. if you need data, it is a chip-off recovery.
