Post subject:  Looking for Good SSD 256GB+

I am looking for a good solid state drive at least 256GB or bigger that doesn't break the bank. I need to replace one that is acting up. It needs to have both good read and write speeds, and be reliable. The last time I searched online a few months ago I was unable to make a decision on what to get. Any recommendations?

I would go with Samsung as well. Toshiba aren't really Toshiba, stay clear of anything sandforce if you ever think you might need data recovery, but Ive heard sandforc performanc is ok when they don't go pearshaped

Samsung are OK but not 840 evo. Due to fw bug it turns unto data blackhole.

Well I hope the 850 EVO doesn't suffer from the same issue as the 840, because I ordered one.

FWIW, the 850 Pro seems to be OK. No mention of the 850 EVO, though.

I've been using a 840 Pro for a few years, exceptional drive. I just upgraded to a 850 Pro. I don't like the EVO series because they use lower quality (guess it's all relative) NAND. Read that FW link, sort of funny in a way. To achieve faster speeds you must "refresh" the data in the NAND chip which decreases it's lifetime. Sounds like something dreamed up to sell replacement SSDs.

Interesting, I hope that doesn't effect the 850 EVO, or at least as much as the 840 EVO. I didn't go with the Pro due to price. I looked at the standard benchmarks and decided it was not worth it. If I had more money I would have got the Pro. Same reason I ordered a WD Blue instead of a Black for the other drive.
