Recovery from SSD

Hi
My computer was water-damaged but the SSD is OK. The computer is unfixable but I have an external adaptor for the SSD which I plugged into my other laptop for data recovery purposes. The laptop recognises the SSD but wants to format it. I have used data recovery software (eg EaseUS) and I get a list of files and directories but on recovery none of the recovered files are decipherable, watchable etc.
Am I doing something wrong? It seems that it is something to do with partitions? Many, if not all, of the files are RAW.
Thank you in advance for any help.
