Hi All,

New to forum, and have spent last couple hours searching / reading up on forum about data recovery for a Sandisk 32GB SD Card

backstory: Work colleague brought in his son's damaged Sandisk SD card, saying that windows tries to format it every time it is plugged into a reader. (Assuming an incorrect ejection) Card has come from a Canon 600D and the data is his son's very important final year of highschool movie assignment, so poor kid is stressed out about it.
Colleague attempted a DR with unknown (to me) software, and was able to extract files, but said the playback quality was very poor (and therefore files were not usable)

So from what i have read on this forum so far, should I be taking the following steps:

1:Take image of the SD card with DMDE onto PC
2: Inspect the image with DR software (R-Studio or Getdataback) and try to recover the files

Is there anything I am missing or is there a chance I can further ruin the data on the card by doing the above? ( i have read that everytime you power the card, there is a chance to cause more damage)

Thanks in advance!!!

If other people have already tried, you don“t know how many times if has been powered on and off. If the card will not be sent to a reputable DR especialist, then if you judiciously access it just to make an image, IMHO you would not be making things worse.

But yes, you would make a image, with the minimum manipulation of the card, then store the card away and work with just the image.

Also, when the other guy says the playback quality was poor, it may be a difference in video codecs in his machine. Maybe the corresponding software from Canon needs to be installed for correct playback.

Assuming that the file system is FAT32, I can help you test the integrity of the basic file system components (in your cloned image) using DMDE.

HI all

Thanks for the responses - I will re-image the SD card using DMDE and revert
