I have this SD Card in for recovery. Tried reading with various voltages but card is dead. Normally these SD cards open pretty easily as there is a seam which can be cracked open. However this one seems like its molded shut. Before I start attacking it has anyone had experience in opening one of these before. Also do you know if this is monolith?

Yep, I have opened many SD Card cases, but this one is molded tight shut, there is no seam to pry open. Also knowing if its a monolith helps as the chip will only come half way down the case which makes it easier to open.

grab a sharp box cutter knife and start at the front and slide over gold contacts. do it carefully and stop when you get down to end of contacts. from there you should be able to start prying or cutting small amounts until you see where the parts making it difficult is.

or even split the sides near contacts enough to slide monolith / pcb out.

The second you see a real PCB is when you start being an extra 100% careful.

don't worry about wrecking card too much.

Probably is monolith as they take up less room leaving more room to plastic weld rest together.

HaQue, I opened the card before getting your post, but used pretty much the same technique. I broke the plastic strips over the contacts. this then allowed me to pull the cover back which is pretty thin. The cover comes away to about half way down easily. Then used a box cutter to trim the top of the cover that surrounds the the chip. It then slides out pretty easy.

It is a monolith by the way, but looks like its SDHC type 12 as detailed in Ace Labs Solbase, so hopefully will not be an issue recovering. Another chance to try out my new spider......

I must tell that pinout is other than v12 so you will save your time.
