There's a way to lock eMMC on the FW level (not related to encryption), and you cannot read anything through eMMC interface then, unless you know the password (which you don't).
Haven't seen it widely used on the tablets/smartphones (except some Blackberry), however it's very typical for chips from car navi/infotainment systems.
The only way to pull out the image from such chip is NAND interface.
