IME these chips usually store information such as OEM VID/PID, current requirements, etc. I suspect that if you remove or invalidate the EEPROM, the flash drive will revert to reporting the USB VID and PID of the controller IC rather than the OEM's ID (assuming that the controller is not brain dead). GT24C32B, Giantec Semiconductor Inc, serial EEPROM, 32Kbit (4K x http://www.giantec-semi.com/Upload/datasheet/CU/GT24C32B_DS_Cu.pdf You can determine the current draw of the flash drive by measuring the voltage across resistor R1 (2R2 = 2.2 ohm). |

We had one recently with the identical PCB layout, but 32GB. I seem to recall R1 was visibly blown so it was not an issue. The NAND was H230EG8VG2ACS which seems to be the same part number listed for the flash memory from some iPhone 7 Plus parts suppliers. |

But I have had one of these iPhone style NAND chips before on another job and it was not recoverable with any software as it wouldn't ID. I sent the pinout to Rusolut for input but they have not got back to me yet. Hopefully some board work will be enough to get the data. Thanks for the replies. |
