Hi everyone

My windows 10 system currently uses a 128gb ssd. I have just bought a 480gb ssd and woudl like to transfer my system and files over to the new ssd.

What is the easiest way to do this with a Windows 10 system? Which program should I use and what steps do I take? I would prefer not to have to install Windows 10 from scratch.

Thanks Peter

Search for "SSD Data Migration" software.

You can try Acronis True image 2017 https://forum.acronis.com/forum/acronis ... s-directly
Boot from CD

select acronis true image
in GUI from Menu select Tools & Utilities
Clone disk
First select your source drive
then destination (your new drive)
just follow wizard

works 100%

Don’t forget to backup your important data before doing this!

Thanks

What happens tyhough when you take a 120gb ssd image and use these programs to copy the image to a 480gb ssd. What happens to the other 3560Gb? Is thsi just free s[ace that will need to be partitioned separately?

cheers Peter

program can manage to adjust the size of destination drive

if you clone to empty destination drive process is safe, because you can see only source and then on destination select empty drive

I use Minitool Partition Wizard. It has a clone HDD feature, and it's very graphic, so the chance of error selecting source and donor, I believe it's low.

like in carpentry where you measure twice and cut once... check settings/drives etc twice, click OK once

the amount of times people have cloned their new drive to their old one beggars belief
