Does anyone have any information on this blob NAND controller?
I can't seem to find any info on it. Most importantly the pinout since chip "off" isn't really going to work for this blob.

so the nand is a blob?
I would think this is probably something like an Alcor controller, common for them to be used on blobs.
Cant say Ive seen one of these though.
might be a case of finding pinout using same method as monolith discovery... or look on some of the flashboot, usbdev sites for any pinouts of SOIC-24 and compare.
Interesting, I wish I had one of these!

My internet research, and suggestions from others, is making me think this might be a rebranded ChipsBank CBM2099E controller.
Does anyone have the pinout for that one? I hear it's in FE database but I'm not a flash extractor owner as of yet, so hoping to do this in PC-3000.

Okay, so it seems it's not a CBM chip at all but rather is a Micov Technology MW8690
Anyone have a spec sheet or pinout for this thing? They don't even seem to have a functional website, so contacting them for a spec sheet is probably a dead end.

Reverse Engineer the pinout, not complicated

PC3K can probably solve the rest..

I Jeremy , i'm an electronic hobbyst and i'm really interested in this argument : reverse engineering pinouts.
There is public documents about that ?
I've understood that it's possible to do it with a logic analyzer, so the method is to compare the signal patterns to indentify each pin or there is other ways ?
I've also read that on some advanced environments it's possible to do it through X-Ray images, but unfortunately i don't have access to such machine

doesn't reversing the pinout rely on device being operational?

@HaQue: no, you can find pinout in 99% cases even on dead device. You need operational "donor" drive only in case you require XOR, LBA or ECC patterns.

Yes and No..
In most cases the controller will boot up and issue a few commands before deciding its dead, as long as those commands are successful I can usually solve a pinout.
If the controller is dead (rarely the case, maybe a fuse, or someone overheated the chip w/ hot air) its a little harder but its still possible to get a general idea of the pinout from the NAND chip without a logic analyzer or XRAY.
Generally speaking donors are last ditch efforts, I typically only use them to reverse engineer manufacture commands or layouts where working media is necessary.

I know, just asking because all commands are 8bit and status reg, ID are also output 8bit only, so i doubt it is possible D8-D15 from the initial few commands on a non-working device ...

Assuming we're talking about an
identical drive. data-medics sent me a donor to solve the pin-out, it's a regular 8bit controller, I solved the pinout but technically in the deal we worked out they "own" the pinout as they wanted to do the work on the clients drive themselves so I can't really share it but if you want to work out something with them feel free.

I had a similar case with a different controller where i needed to solve the pinout coz i found no datasheet for it. After reading the NAND i had to face other issues (can't recall if it was lack of xor or more probably ECC).
But i can't think of a way of solving 16bit pinout without a working device, that's what i asked.

I don't mind you sharing it on a limited basis. I was only asking that I get the pinout provided to me because I couldn't send the client drive out and wanted to have it for future reference.
Unfortunately in my case, the NAND seemed to be completely dead. Never got the tiniest response at all.
