But reading them in PC3k is in 90% pointless. Sandisks work till they are in really bad condition.

I know that the ssd plus with sandisk nand are like this having had one in recently, but I thought those drives with the mavel controller or other brand nand were fine?

As I know this controller is not supported by PC3K.

Yeah, chip off is only option for those, no PC3K support.

It isn't - I didn't see the OP had specified the sandisk controller rather than once of the many others found in the drives.
