Hi,

I am new to the forum and data recovery field. But working on microsoldering-based fixling. Also my field is computer science and engineering. I have following items with me.

1. 32 channels logic analyser
2. FT2232H board
3. All other needed for mocrosoldring

What kind of software I should use to acquire data from a monolith card using above board?

I read lot of posts in this forum and I got to know that this field is something very expensive and not easy to go with small budget gadgets. But for somebody there should be a starting point. Nobody born with all equipment money and software subscriptions.

Really appreciate experts' advices at least to enter into the field.

There's VNR, PC3k flash, Softcenter tools for flash recovery (perhaps some others i doN't know of), all of them will cost you some bucks, or you can build your reader, write some firmware and software to read the memories, then discover that reading them is the easy part, building usable data from the dumps is a much more challenging task.
So you really need to spare some money for tools i think. There's a lot of know ledge behind them, which has to be paid.

And I suggst start from old device with TSOP48 chips, not from monoliths. Why everybody want start flash learning from the hardest thing?

and why does everyone want to re-invent the wheel and make a reader? Sure the microcontrollers may be cheap, but getting to the stage of a US$215 reader with FREE support for many chips, plus new chips will take many, many hours, likely years of work. And this is one of the most basic stages, the starting point. Getting the dump is not the issue many times.

I think people that have done some electronic engineering before underestimate the nature of flash, comparing it to other common SDK's, or architectures such as MSP430 or ARM, Xilinx, Atmel etc.

No, Flash is a poorly documented mix of epic proportions

Thank you for your valuable feedback. I will start with a simple NAND as advised and then buy a device for US$215. Though I like it or not. That initial investment which is very important.

i second that, i only mentioned own reader building to widen the opportunities and have the 'cheapest' version, which is surely not the cheapest one :)

Can you kindly send the name or link of 215$ reader with free support?

I assume this is the reader what was meant: http://www.flash-extractor.com/shop/

NAND Flash Reader with TSOP-48 adapter
System Requirements: Windows XP, USB 2.0

For hardware we can accept only bank transfer

Cost: 210$, buy

reading is one thing, assembly of the user lba space is another one. The lic for the latter sw is a bit more steep, around 1500 usd for one year as far as i remember.

I am surprised because IIRC the price was $1850 and it looks like it has dropped.

I don't think it is bad at all considering you get unlimited support - just upload dumps or let him connect via teamviewer and free solution in cases that aren't refurbished chips or a few other limitations. Plus free updates to the NAND reader software.. also free chip configs created by skype.

A DR shop should be able to recoup the yearly cost of the license.

I think it is the best value of all 3 in terms of money, and options for a starting DR shop. In terms of technical ability/advancement of product, then VNR probably is far ahead.

SC dont want to **ck around with hard cases too lung but prefer to solve as much as possible, but even still there has been some pretty good updates last year or so.

I think if you have SC for cranking out the common solutions or "standard'ish" ones and had VNR for research and getting into the harder ones you would have a solid flash lab. But - and here is the big one - you are going to need a person or three that is really invested in learning and putting in many, many solid hours for sometimes frustration as a reward.

yep, SC's price dropped at some point apparently. Still not 210 for a complete solution, that's what my point was.
