They are doing very well so far, actually the only option available but is the future most of the cases am getting here are SSDs used in Laptops or even in regular desktops (faster booting/usage) "not sure about other places" They are focusing now in M2`s mainly, Most of those new regular SSDs are either encrypted SA or they use their own custom Loaders (no more standards like before except few brands not known mostly) |

so when we are using these crazy sizes - how does the general public do proper backups (as we always preach) in any realistic way? |

The reason why we (DR companies) survive is because people are too lazy to backup... the problem with the 8TB i posted is that they both act as RAID0 (4TB x2) so if one dies probably gave over... |
