Hello

First time here, but long time reader.

Can anyone explain what these switches do or are intended to do?

Thank You

My guess is that they are switching the CE lines. The problem is that most flash readers on the market can only handle 1, 2, 4 CE lines, but flash chips have up to 8 CE lines, so to be able to read out the whole chip you have to read it once, then flip the switch, then read the other CE lines. Since there seems to be no flash reader vendor on the market who is interested in to build a reader that can read 8CE lines, you have to solve that problem in the adapter.

Hi Sourcerer

Thank You for your reply.

But will this affect the normal reading of a flash drive? What/how should they be configurated to the right reading?

CE = Chip-Enable lines
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chip_select

I would suggest to start by setting the CE switches to 0-0-0-0, dump the flash, then switch it to 1-1-1-1 and dump it again and see whether you get the same dump or a different dump. If the dumps are different, you can try all other combinations as well.

But wait, perhaps it is not for selecting the CE lines. You might want to check that first. Take a multimeter and measure from the TSOP48 pinout CE0 line to the pins on the connector. Then flip all switches and see whether the connection is gone.

Thank You Sourcerer

I will make some readings with all on 0 and then all on 1 and test.

yes, I would make a continuity test to see where switch contacts go on the tsop48, and make a table:

SW1 "On" side = TSOP48 pin x (or VCC, GND, discreet component or whatever)
SW1 "Off" side = TSOP48 pin x
SW2 "On" side = TSOP48 pin x
SW2 "Off" side = TSOP48 pin x
etc

BTW, please post results just out of interest
