Hi All,
I've got 2 Intel SSD DC S4500 1.92TB, they are HPE branded. When I put them in the computer they are correctly recognized but cannot be formatted, they will be block on un-initialized, when trying to initialize I will get different error one being "the device cannot find the requested sector". I tried from MacOs, Windows, Ubuntu, it will always fail.I did some research online, and found out that these drive with the firmware they have from HPE (HPG2) may have an issue where they will stop working after a certain time because of firmware issue (
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/do ... 72768en_us). So I tried to update the firmware to latest one (HPG5 or HPG3) but it will always fail on Windows. And on Ubuntu it says : "deferred flash, reboot required to apply" but even after reboot it will never do the update. So second step I tried to check from the intel-cli tool and got the following :
Code:
-1 Intel SSD DC S4500 Series -
Capacity : 1920,38 GB
DevicePath : /dev/sgl
DeviceStatus : *BAD_CONTEXT_2020 PG
Firmware : 4IYVHPG2

Obviously the intel-cli refuses to do anything on the drive and says : "selected drive is in a disabled logical state". I also believe that the intel-cli tool would never flash anything on it since it's an HPE branded drive. Checking crystaldiskinfo, it sees the drive and gives some info about it, but no smart attribute, nothing (might be due to HPE firmware).
Here are the pictures of the pcb of this drive :

I believe this is more a firmware issue than an hardware issue, so I was wondering if someone new of a way to put these drive into recovery, rom or any specific mode that would allow for a new firmware to be flashed successfully on it (either the HPE one or the intel firmware) or at least remove that disabled logical state. I don't mind losing all the data on the drives.
Thanks in advance,
