SanDisk Milpitas 16KB

January 5th, 2022, 20:33

so , i have a sandisk ssd plus "SDSSDA-240G" that apear on the bios as SanDisk Milpitas (all of the sudden), it shows on recovery software a 16KB when its a 240GB ssd .

what i suspect the 16kb is , is just the controller on the SSD .
from reading abit online is a common thing on sandisk ssd ,
"SSD is stuck in a panic state where it is unable to fully load the firmware from the service areas on the NAND chips"

https://www.recoveryforce.com/sandisk-s ... -recovery/
or pc3000 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BlAaDd9KYk

the blog post does not describe how he got that to work, and i dont have a pc3000 device .

help would be great ;)

thanks !

You wil not get it to work. Milpitas is a real pita. Haven't seen anyone recovering that. It's not supported by PC3000 yet.

We recover many of this. But success rate depends on condition of memory modules. Usually is big or very big.

condition are pretty good tbh , not alot of read/write on the memory module , and its kinda new like exactly 3.2 years on the ssd i was in shock

btw , if you look into the youtube link i sent , they did recover it .

from my understanding this type of ssd drivers are the same , wd-green and sandisk if you look online WD ssd urned into milpitas sandisk :)

WD green is based on Sandisk controller and they are shown as milpitas when they fail. Those based on Marvell are doable in some cases. Most of Sandisk work till they die totally so theres not much to recover. Not like PS3111 based ones.

I do not agree. So far all my WD cases based on Sandisk controller 20-82-00469-2 was recoverable by chip-off method.

My bad. I should have written that they cannot be done via SATA. As OP wrote "the blog post does not describe how he got that to work, and i dont have a pc3000 device ."
So there's no way for him to do it at home.

the blog post doesn't show or explain how they done that , and yes i dont have a pc3000

back to my original post .

how is it possible to recover the drive (lets say i did not care about the data inside .)

is that possible for example to replace the controller ?
i'd bet the memory modules (memory nand chips) are fine

I bet the opposite. That the controller is good, and memories are damaged/ problematic.
It's not worth the effort to repair it but you can try to force FW upgrade or flash.

right , because the 16KB is basically the controller ..

although the controller holds the FW no ?

how can i force a fw upgrade/flash ?

i am looking for some guides or videos that can help me out .

note that this is for education purposes and not necessarily receover the data inside

FW is on NAND.
If you try to fix the drive, upgrade or flash it, you'll loose the data most probably.

Hello everyone.
also i have a sandisk sdd sdssda-480g with the same problem 16 kb on 480g, SanDisk Milpitas.
I was wondering if the 16kb are the firmware maybe it is this part that is corrupt and does not continue to read the data, I tried to look for the frimware to try to rewrite it but it is not found, the chip on board is a sandisk so it is not recoverable with pc3000, i am not interested in recovering the data but i would like to recover ssd somehow.

This is about sm2246 controller
Not sandisk controller

This link is about the Sm2246 controller, not the SanDisk controller

Those based on Sandisk controller can be recovered via chip-off.
