Post subject:  Samsung SSD with lost password

Lost Password issue with a 512GB SSD in a Lenovo S940 laptop.
SAMSUNG MZVLB512HBJQ-000L2
I am unable to reset/reformat the drive.
If I leave the SSD in the laptop, it keeps asking for the HDD password even though the BIOS is setup to boot from a USB drive (after first removing the SSD to get to the BIOS) and does not let me boot to Windows. If I remove the SSD drive the machine boots to windows.

How can I unlock/reset/format the SSD drive? Is there a master password?

I called Samsung and was told to use Magician software. Does it mean I may need to get a USB to SSD adapter to access the drive from the Magician software? How will it be readable/accessible by Magician ?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is a blue screen with white borders and fonts asking for PW.
I don't know if Samsung would use Bitlocker.
I have attached the pics.

This is drive password not bitlocker, and you can forget about resetting/hacking it

Apparently, the OPAL system is used for protection. If so, then you can erase the drive using the PSID, which is written on the sticker. Magician has a PSID Revert command. You can also use the Sedutil.

How do I get the PSID?
It does not seem to be printed on the sticker.
I already have installed Magician on another computer and have a PCIE - NVME SSD adapter on the way.

Apparently you have an OEM version without the PSID inscription...

I was able to see this drive in Samsung Magician via a 4x PCIe adapter. Had to hit the del key while Windows 10 was loading otherwise it shut down.

Unfortunately, I am not able to erase the drive.
All 3 options, erase, PSID revert and Encrypted Drive give the same error message that this is not supported.
Called Samsung and they said that their SemiConductor dept may be able to help as this is an OEM drive and it is not supported by Magician.

I have a Samsung 850 EVO with the same bios password set, for some reason I also get the same messages for the PSID and other option, the encryption option does actually load, but it doesn't help. I'm guessing you weren't able to get the drive reset?
