OCZ Vertex 2 60GB dead slow

Hello!
I have a good old OCZ Vertex 2 60 GB with around 17 TB writes to date. Last time I wrote it full with large files, one week later I deleted these files, but copying into it became really slow. It starts with 30 minute for a 1 MB file, then it goes up to 10s of hours and never finishes. The memory chips/controllers are not hot at all.
I don't need data, just curious what's the background issue here.
Is this normal for 10+ year old ssds? Is it age, or reached its end of life due to TBW?
Thanks!
