Post subject:  Recovery from locked and encrypted Android phones

My daughter had this annoying accident lately where her phone (Huawei P20) was in airplane mode (faster charging) and for reasons unknown to me she decided to change the pin code for the screen lock, and later forgot it. If the phone hadn't been in airplane mode the lock would have been able to get rid of using Google Account but since there was no network (and not possible to turn off airplane mode unless you unlock using pin code) it was not possible to do that. Everything was backed up so a factory reset and backup restore she was good to go again.

But this had me thinking; since Android nowadays is completely encrypted, how would one do a data recovery for situations like the one my daughter had? I.e. phone is working perfectly physically, but the password was forgotten. "Don't forget your password!", well; sure, but I think older people might get stuck in this situation as well when the memory starts to diminish.

How can we help our customers in these locked-out-situations?

Write down the password(s) and put them somewhere save i.e. don't use something which gets easily stolen like your purse.

Well that's the 5 million € question...

With the right tools and knowledge it's possible.

A P20 could take some time, but easy to solve.
