Hello,
on the weekend my Samsung 850 EVO failed after years of operation in a small Linux server.
Since a lot of log files and SQL records were written, I assume that it was written dead?

Is there still a possibility to get the data?

I have measured the voltages as in the topic https://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=38160 as follows:
V1 = 1,10V
V2 = 1,80V
V3 = 1,25V
V4 = 3,03V
V5 = 1,85V
V6 = 1,1V
VBoost = 12,09V

Attached are pictures and the dmesg messages when I connect the disk via a USB adapter. (A working EVO840 is recognized with the adapter without any problems).

I forgot to mention that it is a 120GB SSD. Attached are more DMESG outputs with another USB SATA adapter

It's failed - probably NAND degraded especially at its age.

<edit> scratch that - thought it was a pro not the evo, there's no support for the controller in pc3K.

What do you think, will this model be supported in a future version of pc3k ?

I notice that your second USB adapter detects the SSD with its correct model number and full capacity. However, it cannot read sector 0. If the drive were healthy, this is the kind of behaviour that one could expect from a password protected drive.

That said, it should be possible to retrieve a SMART report from a password protected drive. Does smartctl (smartmontools) produce any output?

You get the same output (original dmesg) from a device with no nand chips solder onto it.

I doubt it, you'd think there would have been progress by now, it may be geographical but samsung drives in general are one of the most common I that get enquires about, unless it something electrical with the more recent models there's not a lot that can be done.

The problem with modern Samsung SSDs is that they emply digital signatures and encryption in the firmware, making it virtually impossible to be cracked. Basically, without insider information from Samsung, we likely won't be seeing support any time soon.

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, that does not sound good. I will keep the hard disk, maybe it will work in a few years.
