WD Green SSD 480GB (SanDisk) Short Pins board Location SM2258XT 20-82-00469-2 54-50-02087-2
Can anyone please tell / show me where the short pins for safe mode are located on this board urgently.

Perhaps a photo of each side would help.

Your drive have controller SM2258XT or 20-82-00469-2.

Chip off with FE. Not yet supported by PC3000.

Is there any activity via SATA?
I can see a 5V e-fuse (marking ACH) at U10 near the TI PMIC (V079). If necessary, the e-fuse can be bypassed by linking the R58 or R19 pads on the other side (confirm with measurements before trying this).
There should be 3 supply voltages at inductors L2, L4 and Lx.

U10 is actually a P-channel MOSFET configured as a high-side load switch. I expect it switches 5V power to the whole PCB under the control of the DevSleep pin. I have seen a similar component ("1D") fail on other Sandisk SSDs. This MOSFET can be bypassed by bridging R19 or R58.

As a complete newby, I've experienced the same issue with the same board, is there a way to fix by removing and soldering resistors/capacitors without using pc-3000, or software is the only way?
Is this small black chip shorted/burned (color is darkest than the other) ?
Help is really appreciated for moving first steps

Did you fixed the issue ? if yes, can you explain how you did ?
Have same issue with same exact board, the only problem is that I'm a newby, but need to save some data inside

@matthew555, if you want to test the hardware, measure the voltages between ground (eg a screw hole) and each of the inductors (L2, L4, L?). Also measure the voltages at R58 and R19.

Thanks very much for your support and help ...
this are the values :
L2 = 2.74VDC
L4 = 1.25VDC
L3 = 0.02VDC
R58 = 5VDC
R19 = 5VDC

I've checked with a thermal-camera and in this area it seems to be concentrated all the heat
Wrote a mail to PC-3000 and it seems there is no compatibility with my Sandisk-based CPU 82-00469 controller.
Is there a chance I can do for fix and save some files ? replacing L2 L3 and L4 could lead to a possible fix ?

@matthew555, it would appear that the output voltage at L3 is shorted to ground. There are several possible culprits, but let's hope that there is a shorted capacitor, in which case the fix would be to remove it.
I would measure the resistances of each of the capacitors so that we can narrow down the possibilities.

L1 = 0.4 Ωohn
L2 = 0.4 Ωohm
L3 = 0.4 Ωohm
all 3 sounds 'beeb' when touched with tester that means there is connectivity between the 2 poles - (Using MASTECH MS8910 Smart SMD Tester)

@matthew555, have you just measured the resistance of the inductors themselves? The power line L3 is on appears to be shorted to ground, if you measure it's resistance to a screwhole it should confirm. It's then a question of finding out which item on the line is shorted to ground, the inductors are inline and have no connection to ground.
@fzabkar, I don't remember seeing one but have you put a guide together about the basics of ssd testing like the tvs diode faq? It might save some repetition in the long run.

@Lardman, I do have tutorials on switchmode power supplies, but now we're looking for a shorted capacitor, so they wouldn't be useful.

L2 = 54.0K-ohm (measurement came after few seconds)
L3 = start at 5.0M-ohm got fixed value around 0.74M-ohm (fixed measurement came after a countdown values of a couples of minutes long)
L4 = 2.38K-ohm (measurement came after few seconds)

It looks like there is no short, so that would suggest that the PMIC (V079) is faulty. Try applying downward pressure on the IC, just in case there is a solder problem with the BGA balls. If this doesn't work, then it may be possible to patch in an external supply, but we would need to know the voltage.
BTW, this IC is made by Texas Instruments, but it doesn't appear to be a standard off-the-shelf part.
