Hi all,
Would anyone know if it is possible to reset the ATA password on a Maxtor Z1 SSD. The drived shows as staus locked in ubuntu using hdparm. The password that was thought to be correct unfortunatley isnt and we do not want to lose any data.
Many Thanks

I can't answer your question, but if you have moved the SSD from its original environment to a new environment (eg laptop to desktop), then that may be why your password challenge fails.
FWIW, this site claims that the "Maxtor" controller is a rebadged Phison PS3111-S11:

It is possible to reset the ATA password on a Maxtor Z1 SSD, but the process is not straightforward and may involve specialized software or hardware tools. One option is to use the hdparm utility in Ubuntu to try different password combinations, but this can be time-consuming and may not be successful in unlocking the drive. Another option is to use specialized software or hardware tools that are designed specifically for resetting ATA passwords on SSDs. However, these tools can be expensive and may not be readily available. If the data on the drive is important, it is recommended to seek professional help from data recovery experts.
