Hi everyone,

I got a Patriot P210 512GB SSD which is not detected anymore, I checked with thermal usb camera and the MAXIO MAS0902 Controller is getting hot.
Does anyone have an idea where I can start troubleshooting, what I should do?

Best Wishes

Check the power rails for shorts by measuring the resistance of the inductors to ground.

How hot is hot, short hot or activity hot. If the device is electrically sound try safe mode.

Hi mate,

Do you have some details about safe mode?
I shorted two pins on the right side and i could get it recognized with a drive size of 128kb if i relay correctly two days ago.
Is that the safe mode?

Best wishes

Sounds about right, If you're getting that far the drive appears to be electrically sound so you'll need the new version (7.3.x) of pc3000 for controller support for the mas0902.

That sounds good but i dont have that equipment unfortunately.
Do i have any other options?
Cheaper device for data recovery?
Swappping parts with donor P210 SSD or an area to check for?
As for the power rails, shall I still check that?
I can do solder work, that shouldnt be the problem but having an idea what to swap would be good.
I checked the caps as i could see on some youtube videos for shorts, i hope i did that right.

Hey mate,

do I have any other options such as repair/swapping chip (soldering is not a problem), any hint where and what else I could also check on the board?
I checked all capacitors and resistors for shorts and could not find anything so far.

Unfortunately I don't have PC3000, are there any other cheaper devices or alternatives?
When I do the safe mode, I get a Generic Loader SATA Device, but it's useless without proper tools I guess.

The 4-pin header is a UART port:

See if you can get any diagnostic messages from the port.

Swapping parts around is pretty pointless unless the controller IC itself is dead and that would be unusual and given it appears to be responding correctly, unlikely. You can still check the power rails, you need to establish the nand are being powered and anything you get from terminal may give an insight into what's actually wrong. But without the tools you're going to be limited as to what you can do.

As for now i have this screenshot attached, maybe that gives another idea

Did you check the power rails?

A camera is something that a mechanic might use. Have you heard of a multimeter?

Hey mate,

I already stated that i checked for shorts with multimeter, i checked all resistors and capacitors for shorts.

I also did measure the resistors values to see if there are interruptions or low resistor values.

But what i dont know is how i can check the power rails :(

When you "check for shorts", you check for shorts on the power rails. What "shorts" were you checking, and what were your measurements? ISTM that you just randomly poked around.

I sent the solid state disk to two companies, both said that they could not do anything.

Put your multimeter in contiunity mode with beep function
Put black and red probes together and see if you can hear the beep sound.
If you can you can go ahead
Put your black probe on ground some where on circuit board
Put your red probe on a s ide of a capacitor and if it beeps, put it on the other side, if beep, you found the shorted cap.

have you also checked that small ic in green circel, in thermal camera picture, it shows that also gets hot.

Hey brother, I did that when I created this Thread, but I will redo it with Ground and left/right pads, but IIRC it was what I did first and afterwards I did like in your picture.
That small IC, I may need to reorder one and then just change it, maybe the disk will work?
Thank you very much

Meanwhile, I got a PM, maybe I will send the disk abroad

its up to you if you send it out to someoe who can fixit or you wanna try it. It depends on if you can get the ic and do the soldering.
