Post subject:  Seagate XF1230 ata password unlock?
I am at my end of the rope of trying to unlock this drive.
I have tried with MHDD, but i think i need a motherboard with a sata controller that supports ide mode to use it. After trying all computers i can get my hands on, i couldn't find any that can do it.
I am currently trying with Vitoria but the security manager option shows disabled in API so i still can't unlock it.
Is it actually possible to unlock it? What should i be using to do it? At this point i have almost already given up on the data on it, so even just whiping it would be an option.

How did you set the ATA password? Was the SSD in a laptop? Note that your password may be encoded by the laptop as keyboard scan codes or some other method.

I've got it inside a second hand homeserver, after using it for about a year, it locked itself after a crash and windows restart.

Is it possible that this is not a real ATA password, but that the SSD has failed and is now in some kind of "safe mode" or factory mode?

Can you show us the SMART output from GSmartControl or Victoria?

It does look like some kind of failure at the firmware level, even though it looks good in every (?) other respect.

I don't know how to bypass the "security" and recover your data, but there may be a way to recover your drive. I would need to see detailed photos of the PCB, though, if you would be prepared to try.

I can't get the text on the chips on camera, the middle one (I assume the controller) is a skhynix SH87810AA

Sorry, those images are impossible to work with.

I'm interested in the 20-pin chip at the bottom left. I suspect this may be an MP5505 which would be involved in power loss data protection. I was thinking that we could disable this chip and force the SSD into "safe mode" or "error mode" This technique was successfully employed to unlock a Samsung enterprise SSD in a recent thread.
