Post subject:  SanDisk Ultra 2 Controller problem?

Hello guys!

I have a SanDisk Ultra 2. At first iit was possible to get it ready via short on PC3K but after some minutes it stoped.
I lloked via termal cam and saw that the controller is getting some temperature... like 38C.. not so special.

But i dont know whats the problem... could anyone help me or give me some advice?

Thank you!

Greetings,
Ihab.

If it used to come ready and after a delay and now doesn't it would point towards firmware problems from degraded nand. Supported in pc3K ssd.

If you're not getting anything from the controller check the power rails to ensure it is being powered correctly. I don't have a pcb to check for you I've looked. Also check the power consumption pattern and usage. I've not seen a dead controller on these - perhaps others have?

What are the voltages at L1, L2, L3, L4?

fzabkar, Hello,

L1 seams to get nothing
L2 also seams to get nothing
L3 around 1.8
L4 around 0.7

but not 100% sure on L1 and L2 to be honest...

It would be unusual to have two step-down converters fail at the same time. Are you measuring the voltage between the inductor and ground?

Post subject:  Re: SanDisk Ultra 2 Controller problem?

fzabkar, I was measuring on each side from the inductors.
Do you think it would be worth to change them?

Post subject:  Re: SanDisk Ultra 2 Controller problem?

Work the rail backwards until you find some voltage, the inductors don't produce it.

Start at the 5v input at the sata connector and work forwards then - this is basic troubleshooting and certainly not something your should be learning to do on a clients drive. Buy/get an identical donor drive and work with it until you understand how power is delivered to the major ICs.
