SDSSDHII-480G

This present with all status lights dimmed, but for the life of me I can not find anything wrong with the board. I've already purchased 8 donors looking to find a comparison drive or even just to move nand/controller but none are the matching pcb and use the 88SS1074 controller instead.
Anyone been here before or even have a working donor PCB for beer tokens, nobody I've asked has one either.
AFAICS all the voltages are present and as expected, no shorts to ground anywhere. Drive goes instantly to a constant 170mA no sign of any startup sequence, 3v on terminal pads (7/9) but no output at all.

This controller and this SSD are supported by PC3000. Switch it to safe mode and see what happens to it.

You can't do anything with it in pc3000.

This happens when the contents of the ROM are damaged.
Also if the service blocks are damaged

I've not noticed that before, but I would have expected some movement on the current consumption or output from terminal if that were the case, this completely flatlines.

Not had the chance yet, there's 10v floating around on u12 though. The power IC's were delivered today, I doubt any are bad but I'm going to swap them out anyway just in case. If I can find the same sdram on another board I might as well swap that too.

U12 is a "TPS22965 5.7-V, 6-A, 16-mΩ On-Resistance Load Switch":

that's true. and U14/U20 are TLV62090 converters 2.5-5.5V
as there is no energy storage, this drive shouldn't have more than 5V anywhere

If you decide to change something, then start with the ROM, read it on the programmer, look at the contents. Turn on the SSD without ROM, if it does not come to readiness, then solder what you wanted.

I've doubled checked this morning as it wouldn't be the first time I'd misread the scale on the meter, and pin 6 is definitely 9-10v - 7, 8 are 4.8v though. Pin 6 goes only to cap C96 with is grounded. TP32 is connected to U40 and r44? which are both no stuff.
I'll pull the ROM as
@gold6565 suggested next and no doubt struggle for a few hours trying to get my revelprog to read it

Short the first pin of the ROM to ground. This is the safe ATA mode. Turn on the SSD, it won't take long.

I've already removed it. No change in the drive status other than a slight drop from 270mA to 220mA, still no output on terminal.

If the readiness registers do not light up when the ROM is disabled, then most likely there are problems with the processor or its connection. The terminal will not be in this mode.

It's been looking that way hence my search for a donor, it's just unusual for me to see one that's failed without obvious reason.

if you got new TPS22965 remove it and compare pins
CT would limit inrush current, if something cracked there, maybe it hogs the cpu

ridiculous that they did not mention in datasheet this pin can have 10v
if you checked ODH output on scope i bet it wouldn't look like in datasheet (and i'm guessing its fine on my unit too)
texas instuments - i'd thought they would do better job than this

The block diagram for the load switch shows a charge pump for the N-channel MOSFET. That must be the reason for the 10V reading. However, the datasheet says that the CT pin can be left floating. :-?

cpu fault is only one of the many possible causes.
