Hello, I have a USB memory stick that needs to have a specific serial number to work with a program.
I have the original one, but its broken (breaking) and I fear it will soon fail. I have backups of the data, but it's tied to the serial number of the Stick. (Part of the program is on the stick) Company is out of business, and finding a replacement is not going to happen.
I also have the serial number of the stick, and a few extra USB sticks, could someone be able to modify one of my other sticks to have the serial number I need?
Of course I am willing to pay for your time, all shipping, ect...

Hi,
if you are able to know the serial number of the stick, you can go to somewhere like flashboot.ru, download a utility for the controller number in your new/replacement stick and use it to modify the serial number. The programs are a little tricky to use and poorly documented, but it shouldnt be too bad if all you want to do is change the serial number.
You can try different controller manufacturers for better support/easier tool usage such as the Phison MPtools or the SM32xx utilities for silicon motion controllers.
as you are doing the work on replacement drives, not the original, and the relative low cost of blank drives, I think you should be fine.
That is if the only protection IS the serial number, and part of the program is on the stick, and not something like data on specific sectors or something (which I doubt for usb dongle)

I have downloaded the SMXX files, but I know nothing about how to use them. I tried once and killed one Stick. So I am thinking I should just ask for someone that really knows how to, to do it.
I am 99.9% sure its just serial number security.
